What you get out of Exercising

Investing in 20-30 minutes per day of aerobic exercise may be a great start toward great health.

Aerobic exercise is defined as physical exercise that intends to improve the efficiency of the cardiovascular system in absorbing and transporting oxygen. Aerobic exercise includes prolonged movement of large muscles in your hips, legs and arms that affects your hearts and lungs.

You will notice changes in your cardio (heart) pulmonary (lungs) fitness within weeks of starting.  Your body will also release endorphins, natural pain-killers that increase your sense of wellbeing.

Regardless of your athletic ability, age, weight and gender aerobic exercise is good for you.

Aerobic exercise is a stress placed on the body that is actually good for you and will make your body stronger and more efficient.

Regular exercise can:
·        Reduce health risks including diabetes, cardiovascular diseases such as heart attack and stroke, osteoporosis (especially weight-bearing exercises)
·        Help you maintain a healthy weight
·        Ward off viral illness by stimulating your immune system
·        Keep your arteries clear (decreasing LDL or ‘bad fat’ and increasing HDL ‘good fat’)
·        Strengthening and increasing efficiency of your heart
·        Boost your mood

Another way to help keep your spine healthy is by visiting your Chiropractor.

Is it safe to visit your Chiropractor?

Have you ever wondered if going to to chiropractor was safe or not?  Perhaps fear is stopping you from getting the chiropractic care you need.  Well here are the facts.

Chiropractic is the largest non-drug healing profession in the world today.  Nothing is put into your body and nothing is taken out, so the risk of a side effect is minimal.  In fact the New Zealand Commission of Inquiry concluded Chiropractic as a whole to be “remarkable safe”.

Special LOW-FORCE techniques can be requested and are often used; for infants after difficult births, for children after slips or falls, for seniors, or people who are in severe pain and cannot tolerate a conventional adjustment.

How to recover from Whiplash

By Dr. Brent Lipke DC

Whiplash is not a disease but a way to describe how an injury occurs.  It happens when the head and neck are suddenly thrown from one direction to another.  Most whiplash sufferers have misaligned spinal bones along with nerve, joint, and muscle damage.

Once the patient’s condition has stabilized, any person with whiplash trauma should have a chiropractic examination to be certain that no spinal bones have become misaligned.  Nerve damage, arthritis and disc problems may all result from spinal misalignments that go unnoticed.

Special low-force adjustments can be done to correct any spinal misalignments, using pressure equal to that used on a touch tone phone.

Attention: Fibromyalgia Sufferers

by Dr. Brent Lipke DC

Fibromyalgia is a term describing a condition involving chronic muscle and joint pain, headaches, irritable bowel, sleeplessness, depression and anxiety.  Sounds bad right?  It’s even worse because most forms of treatment meet with limited success.

People often develop fibromyalgia following an accident or trauma to the body.  One study found a 10 times increase in the risk of fibromyalgia following a neck injury.

The American Journal of Medicine and other sources, show chiropractic to reduce pain and improve sleep quality.  Chiropractic works by removing stress from the nerve system allowing your body to function and heal normally.

How to Reduce Your Headaches Without Popping Pills

by Dr. Brent Lipke DC

What puts the ache in a headache ?

Hundreds of millions of dollars are spent each year on medications to relieve headaches but none of these drugs correct the cause.

Headaches can have many causes, one commonly overlooked factor involves spinal misalignment causing pressure on the nerves at the top of the neck that control the blood supply to the head.

Chiropractic research has shown that relieving pressure on the delicate nerves at the top of the spine can decrease the number of headache hours by 69%, reduce migraine episodes by 90%, and decrease medication usage by 94%.

Why you need to reconnect your life power after a trauma

by Dr. Brent Lipke DC

When Christopher Reeve aka Superman fell and broke his neck, his brain didn’t become totally disconnected from his body, or he would have died, but he did become partially disconnected brain from body.

When this happened, less of the LIFE power from his brain flowed to his body and his body began to degenerate.

The day after his injury, although he looked the same, he was as disconnected from that LIFE power as he was ever going to be.

Years later, before he died, how did he look? Muscles atrophied, organs weakened, but his body was the same amount disconnected from his brain as right after the accident.

All that changed, was time passed. What happened to superman in a second happens to people on a smaller scale every day due to the traumas of life.  They slowly get disconnected from parts of their body leading to disease.  Chiropractors focus on reconnecting this LIFE power between the brain and body, restoring normal function.

Tips on how to improve your posture

Headsets help avoid bad posture

In our previous post we talked about The Importance of, and how having good posture can help improve your health.

In this post we are sharing some tips on how to improve your posture.

Posture Tips by Dr. Dan Vitale

The key to changing muscle imbalances and, therefore, posture will be through your muscle lengthening and stretching program and your cervical traction exercises.

Here are some other tips on how to improve your posture:

  • When sitting make sure both feet touch flat on the floor. Your knees should be slightly higher than your hips. This will maintain your spinal curvatures. If necessary, use a small pillow or rolled up towel behind your low back.
  • Use the arm rests on your office chair to keep the stress off your shoulders.
  • Avoid cradling the phone between your shoulder and your ear. Whenever possible, use a headset while you are on the phone.
  • For desk work bring your documents to eye level to avoid hunching over with your head looking down for long periods of time.
  • Take regular breaks during the day to stretch and move your joints.
  • Have your work station ergonomically assessed.
