Chiropractic Significantly Improves Scoliosis

Chiropractic care, including adjustments and exercises, may significantly improve scoliosis, according to a new report.

The study included 28 patients with scoliosis. According to the report, “The average beginning primary Cobb angle was 44″. Patients received the same chiropractic rehabilitation program for approximately 6 months. At the end of active treatment, improvements were recorded in Cobb angle, pain scores, spirometry, and disability rating. All radiographic findings were maintained a 24-month follow-up”

Findings showed that patients “reported improvements in pain, Cobb angle, and disability immediately following the conclusion of treatment and 24 months later.”

What you get out of Exercising

Investing in 20-30 minutes per day of aerobic exercise may be a great start toward great health.

Aerobic exercise is defined as physical exercise that intends to improve the efficiency of the cardiovascular system in absorbing and transporting oxygen. Aerobic exercise includes prolonged movement of large muscles in your hips, legs and arms that affects your hearts and lungs.

You will notice changes in your cardio (heart) pulmonary (lungs) fitness within weeks of starting.  Your body will also release endorphins, natural pain-killers that increase your sense of wellbeing.

Regardless of your athletic ability, age, weight and gender aerobic exercise is good for you.

Aerobic exercise is a stress placed on the body that is actually good for you and will make your body stronger and more efficient.

Regular exercise can:
·        Reduce health risks including diabetes, cardiovascular diseases such as heart attack and stroke, osteoporosis (especially weight-bearing exercises)
·        Help you maintain a healthy weight
·        Ward off viral illness by stimulating your immune system
·        Keep your arteries clear (decreasing LDL or ‘bad fat’ and increasing HDL ‘good fat’)
·        Strengthening and increasing efficiency of your heart
·        Boost your mood

Another way to help keep your spine healthy is by visiting your Chiropractor.

Attention: Fibromyalgia Sufferers

by Dr. Brent Lipke DC

Fibromyalgia is a term describing a condition involving chronic muscle and joint pain, headaches, irritable bowel, sleeplessness, depression and anxiety.  Sounds bad right?  It’s even worse because most forms of treatment meet with limited success.

People often develop fibromyalgia following an accident or trauma to the body.  One study found a 10 times increase in the risk of fibromyalgia following a neck injury.

The American Journal of Medicine and other sources, show chiropractic to reduce pain and improve sleep quality.  Chiropractic works by removing stress from the nerve system allowing your body to function and heal normally.

Headsets help avoid bad posture

In our previous post we talked about The Importance of, and how having good posture can help improve your health.

In this post we are sharing some tips on how to improve your posture.

Posture Tips by Dr. Dan Vitale

The key to changing muscle imbalances and, therefore, posture will be through your muscle lengthening and stretching program and your cervical traction exercises.

Here are some other tips on how to improve your posture:

  • When sitting make sure both feet touch flat on the floor. Your knees should be slightly higher than your hips. This will maintain your spinal curvatures. If necessary, use a small pillow or rolled up towel behind your low back.
  • Use the arm rests on your office chair to keep the stress off your shoulders.
  • Avoid cradling the phone between your shoulder and your ear. Whenever possible, use a headset while you are on the phone.
  • For desk work bring your documents to eye level to avoid hunching over with your head looking down for long periods of time.
  • Take regular breaks during the day to stretch and move your joints.
  • Have your work station ergonomically assessed.
